Lifelong Learners was established by Jerry and Susan Chrisman, home educators since 1985, who have a passion for helping other families as they train and educate their children. With most of her five children grown, Susan focuses on providing resources that teach and equip others to instill a lifelong hunger for learning in their children. Through books, workshops, seminars, and at conventions, she provides gentle insight from her many years of homeschooling experience.

Susan has a bachelor’s degree in music education. After college, she taught briefly in a government school setting, then found opportunities to write curriculum for a Sunday School, write and teach Bible Studies, and compose children’s choir music. Her greatest joy in teaching, though, has been the education of her own children. In 2008, after over twenty years of home educating experience, Susan founded Lifelong Learners for the purpose of encouraging parents, especially moms, in the training and education of their children. Susan’s heart and calling are to guide moms in understanding the true education of the whole person, an application of Mark 12:30: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

Since 2001, Jerry and Susan have served on the board of OCHEC, Oklahoma Christian Home Educators’ Consociation. Jerry is currently serving as president, and Susan is editor-in-chief of publications and coordinator for the annual OCHEC Leaders' Retreat. She also co-directs a Charlotte Mason Discussion Group in Oklahoma City and speaks to support groups across her state, homeschool conventions across the nation, and annually at the OCHEC Homeschool Conventions in Oklahoma. She has many years of testimony to the faithfulness of God in equipping home educators to accomplish the calling He has placed on their lives. Susan is compelled to share that testimony with others.

Charlotte Mason Discussion Group of Oklahoma City

This monthly discussion group in the Oklahoma City area is for those interested in learning about Charlotte Mason’s teaching methods and for those already implementing her philosophy. Led by Susan Chrisman and Sandy Fairchild, this group meets on the fourth Thursday evening of every month, including the summer months. For more information, e-mail: info@lifelonglearnersonline.com.

Who was Charlotte Mason? She was an English woman who devoted her life to educating children, their parents, and their teachers. As an educator and philosopher, she profoundly influenced the educational system of her day. She saw children as thinking, feeling human beings, as spirits to be kindled and not vessels to be filled. Miss Mason was a hundred years ahead of her time in developing an educational philosophy that stressed bringing a broad and stimulating education to a child in a non-competitive, Biblically based way. Her influence continues to grow world-wide today.
